Fixing Startup Errors due to fstab
By pressing ESC during startup

kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.xxxx ro root=/dev/mapper/VolGroup-LogVol00 vga=1024 single |
Press b and enter the following mount command

#mount -o -n remount,rw / |
This will allow you to fix errors in /etc/fstab. Reboot once completed.
If this method doesn’t solve the problem, boot from the CD and by typing linux rescue start the system.
This will mount the system files to /mnt/sysimage and by fixing any faulty files will solve the issue.
